This interactive half-day course is designed to support General Practitioners, Practice Nurses, and other primary care clinicians in delivering person-centred, accessible care to autistic individuals across the lifespan.
Facilitated by two Registered Intellectual Disability Nurses with specialist expertise, the session will explore the support of autistic people in primary care settings, common health inequalities experienced by autistic people, and practical strategies to enhance communication, assessment, and clinical interactions.
Participants will gain increased confidence in recognising autism, understanding sensory and communication differences, and making reasonable adjustments within everyday practice. The course will also highlight areas such as co-occurring conditions, diagnostic pathways, and collaborative working with families and multidisciplinary teams.
Through case examples and discussion, attendees will leave with practical tools and insights to improve health outcomes and patient experience for autistic individuals in the primary care setting.
